A month ago we asked: What single factor besides pure functionality most influences your selection of a geospatial software app? With just 13 votes it's hard to take the results too seriously, but here they are:

A few weeks back I did a very self-serving poll trying to get what/how many geo blogs readers of this blog frequent. My real goal: to figure out if I should "dupe" stories well covered elsewhere. The good news, even with a small sample of 28, is that most of you keep an eye on other blogs.

A few week back we asked for your reaction to Cloud Computing. 83 people responded.

34% Don't know what it is.
26% Will be significant in geospatial.
23% Is not yet stable/secure enough for geospatial.
17% Is just a lot of hype.
2% No opinion.

I suppose that explains the very high hit rate for this post.

I hoped to prove we've got lots of Apple users reading the blog, but I was proven wrong by our small set of responders (35).

A few weeks back, we asked: Has the jump in gas prices changed where you spend your time?

Of 20 respondents, there was a surprisingly even distribution.

35% Yes, I spend more time closer to/at home.
35% No, where the locations where I go are about the same.
30% No, but I visit the more distant ones less frequently.

Next up, let's get to brass tacks. I recently wrote an editorial about moving to a Mac. More than one response suggested GIS people can't use Macs. So, let's see what those who visit this blog are using. Vote on the lower right hand side of our main page.

A few weeks ago we asked about APB readers' use of Twitter for communicating on geospatial topics. We had 51 responses.

0% - No, I don't send, but I do follow one or more Twitters on geo topics.
26% - Yes, I send messages and follow others who share geo topics.
34%- What are you talking about?
42% - Neither of the above, but I know about Twitter.

There was some discussion (here and on Twitter) when I commented that fewer people than I expected (some 80 when I wrote the post) were following the #where2008 Twitter thread. Thanks for the input; I welcome any other thoughts on how the geospatial community is using Twitter.

To my amazement there are very few folks following the where2008 thread on Twitter. Just 70. Perhaps folks are all all on the backchannel IRC? (IRC channel #where2008 on irc.freenode.net)

I guess this is reinforcing my sense of Twitter use in our community which is confirmed, thus far, by the current poll.

In mid-March we asked: Where do you turn first for help with a tech issue?

We had 33 respondents, with a definite preference:

The Web (free) - 76%
A colleague - 13%
The Help (online or in product) - 13%
Somewhere else - 0%
Tech Support (paid) - 0%

Having just installed some new software (I just got a Mac), I have to say that while the provided help is complete, I find it much quicker to find the answer using my favorite search engine and the Web. Perhaps that part of the reason for our respondents?
