Floating objects and scroll wheel

Hi there, I have a map when I am overlaying (not on the map, putting a
div overtop of) a translucent sidebar. Unfortunately when a user
hovers over this sidebar and uses the mouse wheel it zooms the map. I
wish to still have scroll wheel zoom while the user is using the map,
however I do not want it to zoom while over the sidebar.

In January of 2008 I delivered a final version of a map project to my
client. It basically shows a map of the US with markers where the
client's company had done work. You can view it here:

It has seemingly worked perfectly for the past 8 months, but this week
Powered by Google appearing halfway up map, data provider outside of div

The elements of my map are loading in strange positions and my control
of the map is limited to the very top section. I believe it has to do
with the height not being explicitly defined, but I'm not sure. Any
idea's on the problem?

Hey all, I'm currently working on a student housing website and I'm
having a couple errors displaying my map in Firefox on Windows XP.
Don't get me started on how Firefox is a better browser, I agree,
leading me to believe I've done something stupid in my code if it
works in IE.
