Einen ersten Ansatz zur [systematischen] Integration von Gebäuden in die “freie Weltkarte” OpenStreet zeigt dieser Kartenausschnitt.
Alternativ dazu gibt es den Ansatz (das sogenannte Karlsruher Modell), nur Hausnummern bzw. Hausnummernbereiche zu integrieren.

Auf [www.openstreetmap.org] gibt es jetzt ein “Export”-Tab. Damit
kann man einen mit der Maus gewaehlten Ausschnitt direkt als PNG, PDF oder im OpenStreetMap-XML-Format herrunterladen, und zwar auch in hoher Auflöung.
Damit wurde ein Ansatz realisiert, der auch im Rahmen von Google Summer of Code angedacht war.

Eine interssante Live-Demo für Windows Live stellt GeoPortals des Tourismusverband Ostbayern statt. Ein Beta-System finden Sie unter [maps.ostbayern-tourismus.de] .
Zum Technischen Hintergrund: Die hier verwendete eContent.M@ps ist ein auf Microsoft Windows Live sowie offenen Standards wie GeoRSS und WMS-Services basierendes XML-GeoPortal Framework zum Aufbau moderner Mashup’s.
Die Ausführung in einer aktuellen Version von Internet Explorer wird empfohlen.

OpenLayers meets Map24

Now also Map24 is supported as a geo data source for OpenLayers - besides Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Live Local and a lot of other data sources.

componio GmbH extended the free and open source library OpenLayers with this new layer for Map24.
This extension allows for the use of maps provided by the Mapsolute GmbH. Developers are now able to integrate Map24 maps in arbitrary websites through the OpenLayers API. With this extension componio supports the goals of the OpenLayers project and its proliferation within the developer community.

Um mit kommerziellen Lösungen wie Google Maps mithalten zu können, fehlen dem OpenStreetMap-Projekt unter anderem noch Luftaufnahmen bzw. Satellitendaten, die mit den Vektordaten kombiniert werden können. Das OpenAerialMap-Projekt will diese Lücke schließen und gleichzeitig den freien Austausch von Bildern der Erde fördern. Ein erster Prototyp zeigt, wo es hingehen könnte.
OpenLayers 2.5 Released

The OpenLayers Development Team is proud to announce the final release of OpenLayers 2.5. This release features a number of major developments, including:

* Date Line Wrapping: Tiles wrap around the earth
* New/Improved Formats:
* KML
* GeoRSS Simple
* GeoJSON
* New/Improved Feature Digitization:
* Control to Drag Features
* Control to Modify Features
* RegularPolygon drawing/creation Support
* SphericalMercator support on commercial layers
* Tons and tons of bug fixes!

We have also begun to move towards deprecating some of our outdated
functionality. For information on that, and other important changes to
the library before updating your applications, please refer to the
Release Notes, at [trac.openlayers.org] .

As of this final release, the !OpenLayers 2.5 release closes 190
outstanding tickets[1], more than any other OpenLayers release to date!
For this we are indebted to the many members of the community, and
especially the hard work of organizations like The Open Planning Project
via Tim Schaub and a number of developers like Pierre Giraud, Eric
Lemoine, and Fred Junrod of the Camptocamp team, as well as continued

Straßenansicht auf Google Maps

Google hat die Möglichkeit, in Videoaufnahmen von Straßen ausgewählter Städte zu navigieren, weiter ausgebaut. Besucht man auf [maps.google.com] eine Stadt wie New York oder San Francisco, erscheint in der Straßenansicht eine gelbe Figur, die man Anklicken oder - innerhalb blau umrandeter Straßenzüge - auch verschieben kann. Bei Anklicken erscheint im dann erscheinenden Infowindow ein Bild der Straße. Man kann längs der Straße navigieren, den Blick zur Seite wenden und an Kreuzungen abbiegen.
Bei der Technik setzt Google hier auf Flash-Technologie, im Gegensatz zu Ajax, was bei der Kartendarstellung eingesetzt wird.

Google announces a simple new way to embed Google Maps

Google Maps users can add a map to their website or blog just by copying & pasting a snippet of HTML. This new functionality enables Google Maps users to share and disseminate geographic information in the same way that YouTube users share videos. Bloggers and webmasters no longer need an API key or knowledge of Java Script to put a Google Map on their website or blog. To embed a Google Map, users simply pull up the map they want to embed - it can be a location, a business, driving directions, or a My Map they have created - and then click “Link to this page” and copy and paste the HTML into their website or blog. The embedded map is fully interactive, like the Google Maps API, but creating one does not require any programming skills. Users can drag and click or zoom in on a location, and view it in map, satellite, and hybrid modes. Users will find this feature helpful in many ways. For example,
- business owners can now add a map of their business location to its website, with links to directions and more information on Google Maps.
- bloggers can now write about a restaurant or a place they have visited and embed a map of the location in the blog post itself.
- individuals can update their personal websites by publishing maps of geotagged vacation photos or creating sophisticated maps mashups using the simple tools available in the My Maps tab.
The ability to embed maps is available for Google Maps users in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia. It is available in the following languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Russian, Japanese, Catalan, Basque, Galician, Welsh, Faroese and Chinese (TW).
