I have map resize script, which is working fine.. but map zoom control
doesnt change its size. I have zoomControl = new GLargeZoomControl()

on map resize i want to set something like following:

h = $('map').getHeight();

zoomControl.style.height = h-20px;

Please advice.

IE 7 Problem

Infowindow Update with Ajax - can't access gmap object

This is driving me slowly insane. Basically I have a map with markers
loading from a mysql database. When the user clicks a marker the
infowindow loads with the related info for that marker in the
infowindow. Fine so far. I want to put an "update" link in the
infowindow so the user can click that and the infowindow content

Hi,

I'm building a website where people can search for there nearest
business. To do this I intend to use Google Maps API.

When a business signs up for free and enters the postcode, the system
will store the Latitude and Longitude values gained from the post code
in to the database. Later these Latitude and Longitude will be used to

I have been writing some code in php that generates a google map and
also generates a series of calls to the GlocalSearch function.

I have 2 problems, and I am afraid this is hosted on a local server
with no external access. I will try and explain the code as best as

In order to celebrate Independence Day the Google Maps Street View icon has been changed to what appears to be a little Uncle Sam.

Google Maps Street View in France (and a tiny bit of Italy) has certainly brightened up my week. However the rest of Europe may have to wait some time for Street View to appear. Well they will if all the Street View car drivers are as keen to win a Darwin Award as the driver who took this image:

Now what possible reason could anyone have to close a mountain road at 2000 metres? I know - let's drive on and see:

If trying to kill themselves wasn't bad enough Google also seem to be suggesting that you take the quick route down from this mountain:

Or perhaps Google are providing hang-gliding directions now.

If you want some more fun try the game at placeSpotting. The game involves trying to find a location on a Google Map. The game creators contacted us today to say they now have 100,000 users and over 6000 quizzes.

On a more serious note. Privacy International has done an outstanding job of stealing Google's publicity for the launch of Street View in France.

Simon Davis of the group has sent a letter to Google threatening to ask the UK Information Commissioner to suspend the deployment of Street View in the UK. A lot of websites are reproducing this quote by Simon Davis, talking to the BBC,

"In our view they need a person's consent if they make use of a person's face for commercial ends."

I wonder if Google have ever thought about introducing face blurring technology? Oh, wait they have.

You can read the full-text of Davis' letter reprinted by the BBC here. Having read the letter it seems that Privacy International's main concern seems to be with Google's face blurring technology - but I'm a little unclear what their problem with it is.

Anyway the net result is that Google's launch of Street View in France has hardly been reported whilst Privacy International have raised their profile no end.

window (not a popup window) - something similar to lightbox. I have a
function to let users mark a pin on the map and returns the point
value for my application.

I use prototype.js and this is how I add the listener.

Twitter Weather Map

Everyone loves twittering on about the weather. Wouldn't it be great to have a map of all those conversations? It may be small talk but this is one big idea from Walter Rafelsberger.

Walter's map fetches messages from Twitter which contain words about the weather. A KML file is then rendered and displayed on a Google Map. The map is then updated every hour with the latest weather discussions on Twitter.

Currently Austria, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States each get their own dedicated weather map. You can even add the map to iGoogle or Netvibes.

Walter says this is "just a simple example to illustrate the hidden power and possible emergence that lies within social media, presence services and live streams." He even says he produced the map in just three hours.

Simply genius.

Hello,

I am trying to build a control around the map canvas and a grid so
that i can programatically place markers on the map and relevant
information in the grid.

This control would be reused in a number of webpages.

Am not sure if it would be a good idea building it as a server side

Hi,

I geocode via the API. In Germany, some SubAdministrativeAreas
("Region") have the same name like a Locality ("Stadt") inside this
area, e.g. there is a city - Trier - which is part of a region called
Trier, too. The API will only find the city (Locality level) and never
the AdministrativeArea - so I cannot get lat/long for this region.

I have a database that is geocoded. I have the starting lat, lon, and
ending lat lon. The web page I have then gets directions. It draws
the line from starting point to ending point and produces the written
directions, just like the Google example. Works fine.

I also have a class in my code (c#) that uses the Haversine Formula

I think I may have asked this before around here, but it was at least

I have an existing map that I put polyline overlays on to show hiking
trails in various colors to match the "blaze" signs. For "white" and
"yellow," I actually draw 2 polylines, first a black that is 2-pixels
wider than I want, then over that, the color at the "right" width, so
the result is a black bordered light colored line.
how to use google api to calculate travel mileage

I wanted to pass on a origin and destination zip codes and get the
travel mileage for the same.

Could somebody provide pointers as to how to get this using google
API. I do not want to display the map and I just want to call a
function and get the distance (in miles) back. Can somebody point me
"endline" event for enableEditing?

I use "endline" event for enableDrawing, but its counterpart is not
available for enableEditing. For a workaround, I have an outside
button "End Editing." I then loop through the vertexes to look up
elevations, or put them into an email, etc. Anyone have a better "on
the map" solution for detecting end of editing? This is for my map of
Changing Google map from an old site to a new site

I've taken on an existing site. The client wanted a new domain name.
Now the Google Map does not work on the new site. I simply want to
change the geocoder to recognize the new domain name, but could not
locate the information. I could start fresh with a new map, but I just
hate to recreate the wheel. I would appreciate any suggestions.

1) Areas must be highlighted according to administrative boundaries
2)Color depth must be calculated according to number of corresponding
numbers(number of articles from country)

Hi all!

OS: Windows XP
Browser: FireFox3, IE7

I have problem with Memory Leaking:

(this code repeate many times) {

GMap2.clearOverlays();// - Here memory leaks!
GMap2.addOverlay(new GPolygon(...));// x 100+

I have develop an application showing on map many moving objects.
There are many objects added, removed, and replace on the map with new
API Keys not working as expected.

The Tour de France on Google Maps

The Tour de France starts this Saturday.

The big question is who is gong to be the first to combine a live feed of the cyclists in the Tour de France with the new Google Maps street view of the race route, to give us a first person view of the yellow jersey? In theory it should be easy to do, as long as you can lay your hands on a live geo-feed of the race.

Ubilabs last year produced an excellent Google Maps mash-up tracking the position of the cyclists in the Tour de France live on a Google Map.

There is no news, as yet, that they are planning to do the same this year - but I live in hope. Good News, Ubilabs have contacted me to say they are "currently working on this year's stages and will put them online tomorrow. Stay tuned...".

Polar
Polar, a company that seem to sell watches that track your physical performance, have a live tracking map of two cyclists in France. I assume that this is a test for the race itself and that they will be following the race live. The map page says "Next stage starts at 2008-07-05 12:30 French time", so it looks like they will be following the Tour de France.

When the two test cyclists aren't riding the map switches to a Flash animation.

Inway

Inway have a very nice map of the Tour de France route. Each stage of the race is shown on a Google Map. You can navigate between the various stages via links in a sidebar. The map seems to have been built using the Google Maps Flash API as there is some nice morphing between stages.

Mapstars

Mapstars have a very similar map that shows each of the stages of the race on a Google Map. Mapstars have colour-coded the polylines for each stage depending on whether it is a mountain stage, a flat stage or a time trial.

Hotels-in-France
Hotels-in-France has embedded a Google Map for each of the stages of the Tour de France alongside a description of the stage.

Bikemap.net

Bikemap have also created Google Maps for each of the Tour's stages. Each map is accompanied by an elevation graph of the stage and with details about the stage's distance, vertical climb, inclination, and road surface.

I'm from a country that google maps does not give road directions. How
do I code directions, without hard coding every single waypoint
between 2 points?

The roads are already labeled, anyway to make use of that?
null error, out of ideas

I keep getting a 'null' error returned on my Street View even when
using the getNearestPanorama. Can anyone suggest how they would go
about tracking this down or suggest how to fix?

Okay, I altered my function to use the getNearestPanorama but it's
still showing a null error...any suggestions?

I would like to have a map that takes the coordinates from a file xml,
but when I change the map type, it takes the coordinates from another
file xml

I want that to correct the error between map and satellite map
coordinates.

Can you tell me if this is possible? And how can I do it?
