The ESRI User Conference is just starting in San Diego. There are several pre-conference workshops today and tomorrow. On Monday we will present the new news from ESRI.
During the conference I suggest that you check out the following:
ArcGIS Server - massive improvements at 9.2 including ease of use, new functionality (geoprocessing, web editing, data management services, etc.) and more affordable pricing.
Geoprocessing - some exciting new capabilities for modelers. The addition of iteration, feedback, and random functions will support simulation modeling. There are hundreds of new tools for building both static and dynamic models.
Productivity and usability – 9.2 has lots and lots of small enhancements that make it much easy to use, and make everyday tasks much faster.
ArcGIS Explorer for ArcGIS Server – the product has undergone some major improvements in functions and performance. We have also built several base map services – global image, topographic map and streetmap. These look stunning. The key thing about AGX is that you can author and serve your own data from Server, and then use it in AGX or Desktop. You can combine you data with other web services.
Interoperability – we have been working on this a lot in the past year. I think you will notice a significant change in our position on this. Basically, we now feel that the interoperability community and standards have matured enough to be useful in a practical way for GIS users. We have doubled our effort to implement all the key mature standards in our core products and have decided that we need to take responsibility for integrating other GIS products with ArcGIS.
See you next week in San Diego.
