This is pretty cool if they do it, it will make finding new shipwrecks a whole lot easier. But like Google Mars, I’m not exactly sure how they are going to sell ad space on it. The company has assembled an advisory group of oceanography experts, and in December invited researchers from institutions around the world to the Mountain View, Calif., Googleplex. There, they discussed plans for creating a 3D oceanographic map, according to sources familiar with the matter. The tool–for now called Go

I’ve been curious about mind mapping and how it might help me with my work. I did a search on Web Worker Daily for references to mind mapping solutions to see what my fellow bloggers have said in the past to help me vet out the best software or site for my needs. That’s where I saw some mentions about bubbl.us, a Web-based “brainstorming” application. Before I proceeded testing out an application, I wanted to have a better understanding of what mind mapping was all about so I went to Wikipedi

An enterprise software project kicks off with much fanfare, and eventually the application rolls out. Management wants to know the usage of the application, and the effectiveness of the application that IT spent considerable efforts building. Finally, when the metrics come in, it’s not good news. Management wants to know answers; business users claim the application doesn’t serve their purpose entirely, not according to spec. Over thirty students participated in a series of field tasks that represented different kinds of field scientific work. The tasks ranged from classic description to modern collection techniques. For the latter, the students mapped a trilobite-rich area using a Nomad computer and SX Blue II sub-meter GPS from Walcott Scientific. Students found the gear not too cumbersome to wear and use in the field. T

Each person started with an individual 4-minute brainstorm of all the uses they could think of for Idea Mapping. Then I broke everyone into two groups. The groups then merged all of their ideas onto one map. The interesting thing to me is that given the same topic, each group chose different main branches in categorizing the uses.Idea Mapping Success

The grey goose has gone April 30th, 2008 May’s about to arrive. I’m looking forward to it. April’s been fun but I’ve been left with sadness. Three of my favourite people died in March and I’ve been coming to terms with this loss. On March 18th Anthony Minghella died. I couldn’t believe my ears. I was eagerly awaiting the screening of his latest film (set in Botswana) so he was already on my mind. Africa was also on my mind. I’ve hitch-hiked through Botswana and so I wanted to see the film and
