I hadn’t realised that a Google Shock, or whatever it is ultimately called, is possible now and up and running now, albeit behind the scenes… “Google.org has given £2.5 million to set up InSTEDD (Innovative Support to Emergencies, Diseases and Disasters) … GPHIN uses an internet “crawler” to scan thousands of websites in various languages for events and chatter recorded online on blogs, news sites and other outlets that point to the early outbreak of diseases. In this way, it found Severe Acut

Google Tech Talks March 27, 2007 ABSTRACT Classical texture mapping involves associating a single texture map with each polygon of a 3D scene. The pixels in this map are rendered onto the projection of the polygon in the rendered image, for every image generated of the scene. Consequently, for some viewpoints, the distortion of the texture map when projected to the image may produce results which are visually inferior. Moreover, the preparation of such texture maps, obtained by cutting pi

I found an interesting reference to a new Google Mashup called “Who is Sick” - and the Analytics of “Who is Sick“. I wouldn’t be surprised if “Who is Sick” is in some way related to Google Health being rolled out in a very limited way - I don’t know if there is a direct connection or not. I heard about “Who is Sick” from a blog called In These Times in a post titled The New Cartographers -What does it mean to map everything all the time? And what does it mean? “..Amateur geographers are

This is your chance to voice your opinions. With the new update, it's easier to disable crits on the TF2 servers. It was asked in another thread if this could happen, but I want the masses' opinion first. If we would like to do this on Server 5 as a trial, I am all for doing what the majority wants. I personally like crits, because what goes around comes around, it's a fair game...it just seems like they come at the worst time, but that's for any class... But I will listen to everyone's

McMinn County did this one right. Planning in advance with GEO-Jobe, the McMinn Co Assessors Office distributed invitations, got the local paper involved, and setup a open forum in the commission chambers for the unveiling of the new county GEOpowered website. Eighty people from various county and city agencies as well as local real estate professionals showed up to see how the system works and to hear a first hand report of the state of GIS in the County. I demonstrated the new interactive map

The above graphic is a bank mashup showing all banks in Norwalk, CT -- where TMC headquarters are located. (credit: Webmashup.com) A logical place for mashups to show up are in customer relationship management applications where they can allow field sales and support personnel to see the locations of their customers in real-time. Funny, I have been hoping for more and more business mashups to be invented and one shows up right in the CRM space. TMCnet's own David Sims broke the story y

It can even be helpful if a vote goes up, we can see if the map is even played, and we can start VOTING on the maps at the bottom to get more play time out of them! Just th

Referrals happen, thank goodness, but for too many, they happen randomly, almost accidentally. One of the keys to tapping the systematic generation of referrals is to identify and address the customer touch points that add up to lead a customer to the logical and emotional decision that your organization is referable. I say this often, but it’s worth repeating - every person, place and thing in your business that comes into contact with a prospect or a customer is performing a marketing funct

MindNode is a mind mapping application for Macs. It’s got a clean, simple, but flexible interface. Users can create visually appealing mindmaps without having to spend hours trying create certain lines or curves in this or that color—MindNode’s default values go a long way for most users. What’s more, the app uses drag and drop editing—elements are easily added and removed from the canvas. Users can use their keyboard to perform most activities as well. Maps integrate with Quicklook, S

CakePHP Well-Developed PHP Framework When we are developing web application using PHP, it is not a one day process. Sometimes, we spent few months writing PHP code. If the code we wrote were very messy, it is very hard to understand what we wrote previously. So that, we need a PHP framework to work in a structured and rapid manner. CakePHP is a rapid development framework for PHP which uses commonly known design patterns like ActiveRecord, Association Data Mapping, Front Controller and MVC. T
