“One of the basic situationist practices is the dérive [literally: “drifting”], a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiances. Dérives involve playful-constructive behavior and awareness of psychogeographical effects, and are thus quite different from the classic notions of journey or stroll.” Theory of the Dérive by Guy-Ernest Debord One of many goals of the dérive is to attempt to look at the city as a special instance of repressed desires. By letting-go of habitual paths and relati

If George can anoint himself “The Decider” then I can confidently take the title of “The Predictor”. I was just crowned (literally, I have the tiara to prove it) 2008 Visionary Of The Year by Unlimited Potential. Which is pretty impressive, considering it happened in the first month of 2008. It was another fun event and my fellow predictors had plenty of prescient and witty insights. Hopefully UP will post all the predictions somewhere. The following is my outlook on the year to come. It c

Last year I wished some Vietnamese web services to be listed in the Web Trend Map 2008 and this year when Information Architects released the beta version of Web Trend Map 2008 I found a Vietnamese stop: 24h.com.vn, a news site in the same line with Korean ones. The map is for fun only, however I should find out how Information Architects picked 24h and not others. It seems that they did not understand the web scene in Vietnam. It just became a lot easier to find custom Google Maps that users have created. A quick click of the "Show Search Options" and selecting User-created content will give you a list of custom maps created by Google's users along the left column of the page: People are documenting all kinds of crazy things. For example, a guy named Adam plotted his 2007 Taco Bell Road Trip around Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs: Do you see any fun custom maps near you? via Google Maps Mania Comment on

Author: ZUBAIR, AYODEJI OPEYEMI ABSTRACT This project examines the use of GIS and Remote Sensing in mapping Land Use Land Cover in Ilorin between 1972 and 2001 so as to detect the changes that has taken place in this status between these periods. Subsequently, an attempt was made at projecting the observed land use land cover in the next 14 years. In achieving this, Land Consumption Rate and Land Absorption Coefficient were introduced to aid in the quantitative assessment of the change. The

As the Google LatLong Blog reports, Google has added a new “show search options” link beside the main search box in Google Maps. This is a very interesting development for several reasons. It’s a pull-down menu that allows you to narrow or expand results for the same query and more easily discover non-traditional content in Google Maps. The new menu allows you to see: everything, locations, businesses and, significantly, user-created content. The rest of this post is at SEL.

I'm going a million miles an hour this week folks. Send freeze dried coffee. Now. Over the last few months, some great video tutorials have emerged for getting more out of your mind mapping, and I wanted to point you to them. Brian Friedlander at Assistivetek recently posted a great video on using the format painter in MindManager. I'll even add to the tip: By holding down 'Control' with the format painter turned on, you can highlight as many topics as you like. Check it out here:

Hey Everyone, Just a (pretty basic) q for any experienced mappers out there, as I am diving into my first map attempt for UT2004. I've got a concept nailed down, and it's pretty straight forward, but the catch is, it's all in one room, and because of the nature of the geometry involved, the entire map will be imported from max. So my question is, what sort of grand total triangle limit should I be aiming for. I realise this depends on the grunt of the PC running the game, but in today's t
